A new trailer tire from Continental Tire North America, Inc., promises double-digit improvement in fuel economy, as well as increased tread depth. Greater tread depth minimizes squirm and irregular wear.

Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) has unveiled its next generation of truck trailer tire, the HTL Eco Plus.

Trailer tires contribute 42% of the rolling resistance of all the tires on a typical long haul truck, CTNA said. That’s why the company’s engineers were intent upon making the HTL Eco Plus (Heavy Trailer Long-Haul) one of the most fuel-efficient trailer tires possible. CTNA said this new tire improves fuel economy by 10% while tread depth increases by 3%.

Key features of the tire include: 13/32-in. tread depth to minimize squirm and irregular wear; stone ejection system to reduce stone retention and casing penetrations; scuff ribs to protect sidewall from curbing and cutting; and a Visual Alignment Indicator (VAI) that alerts users to vehicle alignment problems.
