A new environmentally-friendly system will provide an engine-off heating and cooling solution for heavy duty trucks. Climacab, Glacier Bay’s electric air conditioning system, and Webasto’s Air Top 2000 ST heater are now offered as one fully integrated system. According to the company, Climacab can provide more than 10 hours of cooling while consuming no fuel. Webasto’s heater system uses 80 percent less fuel than an idling truck. The system will be available from Glacier Bay this summer.
The combination of Glacier Bay’s ClimaCab system and Webasto’s Air Top 2000 ST heater offer heavy-duty fleets the “most efficient, highest value and cleanest solution on the market” for climate control solutions, said Jay Parr, ClimaCab gm. “Adding a Webasto heater to our system is a no-brainer.”The two systems have been integrated into one package that offers year-round environment control independent of the truck’s engine. Glacier Bay will handle all sales, parts, service and warranty needs on the products.
ClimaCab provides air cooling for up to 10 hours while burning no fuel, running instead on four batteries charged by the truck’s alternator when the engine is running. A power management module monitors battery power. The Air Top 2000 ST offers heating using factory bunk HVAC air ducts. It uses 80% less fuel than an idling truck, Webasto said, and is just 5.7 lbs.
