FMCSA pushes back CSA 2010 start date

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will delay the launch of its measurement tool intended to improve safety, but officials insists it will be rolled out in 2010. Once expected to be unveiled in June, the Comprehensive Safety Analysis (CSA 2010) won’t be unveiled until November. CSA 2010 will utilize a scoring system across several behavior and safety categories to determine a rating for motor carriers. Carriers who fall below a certain threshold will be flagged for corrective action or intervention.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is pushing back the start date for its new Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 (CSA 2010) program to November this year – a full five months past its original June kick off date – to give itself and the trucking industry more preparation time.

“We’re not ‘pushing back’ CSA 2010’s start time per se – we’re still launching it in 2010 as intended,” Candice Tolliver of the Dept. of Transportation’s office of public affairs, told FleetOwner.
