Navistar’s eStar all-electric truck is rolling off the production line to what the company calls “significant interest” in the marketplace. President Barack Obama made a multi-million dollar pledge a year ago to put more “green” vehicles on the road. Already, eStar trucks have been delivered to and Pacific Gas & Electric Company. Navistar plans to deliver more support by expanding its dealer locations into key areas in California, the Midwest and East Coast. To make the trucks more accessible, Navistar is offering flexible leasing options.

Following a production kick-off at the Wakarusa, Ind. plant in May and introductory launch events in Portland, Ore., and Sacramento, Calif., in May and June, Navistar officials say the eStar all-electric truck is generating significant interest in the marketplace.

The Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) is good for the environment, according to its manufacturer, Pressure Systems International (PSI), and the product is going green to remind customers of that. The product is now being shipped with a green Thru-T and green striped delivery hoses. This color coding is indicative of the environmental benefits, namely the 1.8 percent fuel economy increase offered by properly inflated tires, according to the company and a U.S. government study. The company said by keeping tires properly inflated also helps provide more reusable casings for better retreading.

Pressure Systems International (PSI) said it has begun shipping the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) to its OEM customers with a new green Thru-T and green striped delivery hoses to illustrate the true environmentally friendly benefits of the product. According to the company, a recently published U.S. Government study shows the use of the MTIS by PSI to continuously maintain proper air pressure can increase miles per gallon in fuel economy by 1.8%.

Mike Niemeyer, director of fleet sales, North & Central America, noted, “With MTIS, our customers automatically get all the cost and environmental benefits of properly inflated tires.”

Another product from Grote’s WhiteLight product line, the 61F61 Motion-Activated Dome Lamp, is intended for refrigerated trailer applications. Designed to withstand 100 percent humidity – a common challenge – this motion-activated LED dome light uses a rugged, sealed sensor. No on/off switch, thanks to the motion activation, offers further protection from the elements. Using an infrared motion sensor, the light comes on when it detects human movement within 6 feet and continues to shine for three minutes after the last sensed motion. The energy-efficient lamp is also designed to extend a vehicle’s battery life.

Grote Industries is now shipping its 61F61 Infrared Motion-Activated Dome Lamp to customers. The 61F61 is a motion-activated LED dome lamp from the company’s WhiteLight product line and is particularly well-suited for refrigerated trailer and body applications.

“Grote is the undisputed leader in interior LED lighting for the refrigerated transport sector,” said Scott Robertson, product manager of forward and interior lighting at Grote Industries. “Our new 61F61 was designed specifically with the challenges of the reefer environment in mind.”

ArvinMeritor’s new line of trailer-arm air ride suspensions feature three technological advancements with distinct operating benefits, according to the company. The Meritor Trailing-Arm Air (MTA) series was recently unveiled, but its various high-mount and low-mount models will produced beginning in the fall of this year and continuing through the summer of 2011. Available on platform trailers, this series utilizes a patented pivot bushing for a softer ride, more cargo protection, better tire wear and controlled roll steer; larger, more robust shock absorbers for greater suspension control, improved braking and enhanced handling; and a unique, patent-pending axle wrap design for secure and durable axle connection.

Fleetguard ES Compleat OAT (Organic Acid Technology) Coolant comes in three environmentally friendly options – nitrite-, amine- and phosphate-free (NAP-free) formulas. Among the benefits of this new formula is extended service intervals. The second product, the QuickCheck 5200, is a handheld device that brings the ease of adjusting engine features and parameters and puts it in the customer’s hands.

Cummins debuted two new products – a new organic acid technology coolant and a new handheld device for monitoring engine operations.

Cummins Filtration’s new environmentally friendly Fleetguard ES Compleat OAT (Organic Acid Technology) Coolant comes in a nitrite-, amine- and phosphate-free (NAP-free) formulation. ES Compleat OAT does not contain borate or silicate, which makes it acceptable to most OEMs around the world, Cummins said, and the NAP-free formula offers liner pitting protection and better aluminum protection than conventional OAT coolants containing nitrite, according to the company.
